Year One 

 Term one will begin with the first topic of the year, “All about Me”, where the children will be talking about themselves and about their likes and dislikes. They will explore their family pictures, label them and talk about who is in their family. We will follow this, by learning about the “World around Us” concentrating on the countries we are most familiar with and learning about continents and animal habitats. Our English work will be based around stories containing animals from different continents, ranging from ‘Day Monkey, Night Monkey’ by Julia Donaldson to Eric Carle’s, ‘Head to Toe’. We will also read stories from around the world like ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. 

The key numeracy skills we will focus on this term will be to count objects accurately,  add and subtract numbers using a variety of apparatus and learn our number bonds to 10.
